Killing the Vampire On My Right

Peggy Noonan on ABC's This Week - "He threw a Hail Mary pass w/ the choice of Palin .... A Hail Mary pass to a section of the Party at a time .... when they needed to redfine what they were .... to go broad to the United States of America ..... Palin on the stump has the authentic sound of the old hit the line ...Republicanism or conservatism.. it is the old party, it is a party dealing w/ old realities... it is not the future, it did not sound like the future, it was narrow, it is repetitive, it is always 1984... it is 2008...

George Will (on Palin's socialism comments) - "95% of what the government does is re-distribute wealth... we have socialism for the strong, that is, the well organized and well represented in Washington, like sugar growers"

Sam Donaldson - "(you can't buy) a $150,000 suit when you are trying to run a campaign about Joe the Plumber, this is nuts. What were these people thinking?"

What would life have looked like for the Republicans if McCain had moved to a more centrist broader approach? A fiscally conservative, pro-business growth, socailly conservative and strong defense approach as a way to the future rather than an appeal to the evangelical hard right and Republican orthodoxy. As measures of the miss-steps, Hispanics that have a friend in John McCain are fleeing the Republican party and Catholic support for McCain is down t0 41%. You can say that in hard times economics trumps culture, but if this is a party re-alignment (ala Regan or FDR) the Republican base will be looking in the mirror. Even if the economy is going to hell in a hand basket, feeding a Democratic congress, McCain could have played it into a Presidential win and essentially a checkmate. Obama has opened up the map with new combinations to get to 270. In my old political science class that was called a re-alignment, that happens about once every generation.

When you play checkers on the blue state/red state map, there are some (but few) scenarios where McCain can pull togther enough electoral votes to win. The end game battle will now be to see if the Senate races will break to get the projected 58-59 Democratic Senate seats to a clochure proof 60 and ensure control for the Democrats, not veto proof but clochure proof.

How amazing would it be if Al Franken in Minnesota becomes the 60th wooden stake in Rush Limbaugh's heart?

Agreement on the George Will statement. He's a man with a brain. Sam Donaldson, just the opposite. What's with the bizzare, hateful twisting in the "$150,000" suit comment? But he's mainstream media. The media that puts up airbrushed pictures of the Messiah weekly on its magazines and has to be embarassed into toning down its fawning (for a week) by nothing less than the "right-wingers" at SNL.

McCain definetly threw the Hail Mary, because he didn't have a prayer without social conservatives. The Republicans never have. His campagin was dead in the water. The evangelicals were gonna stay home. Some of the Catholics were gonna cross over. What's the point in staying with the GOP country-clubbers when the haven't been thrown so much as a bone regarding the abortion industry.

But then again it is a typical sign of the left, being so open minded that all their brains fell out, to some how figure that a man who has little to no political accomplishment or experience in his life is better to have in the Oval Office, than a similarly unprepared, yet never the less, extremely popular governor who has actually done something, waiting at the Naval Observatory.

From the WSJ

"If as Joe Biden suggests the U.S. is likely to be tested by a foreign enemy next year, who of the following would you rather have dealing with it in the Oval Office: Nancy (of Damascus) Pelosi, Harry Reid, John Edwards, Joe (the U.S. drove Hezbollah out of Lebanon) Biden, Mike Huckabee, Geraldine Ferraro, Tom DeLay, Jimmy Carter or Sarah Palin?"

Lorne Michaels, the executive producer of "Saturday Night Live," lives on the forward wave of American life. This week he gave his view of Sarah Palin to EW.com: "I think Palin will continue to be underestimated for a while. I watched the way she connected with people, and she's powerful. Her politics aren't my politics. But you can see that she's a very powerful, very disciplined, incredibly gracious woman. This was her first time out and she's had a huge impact. People connect to her."

The Republicans should be run out of town on a rail, but we should be weeping that crazies like Peolsi, Reid and Biden will be given the keys to the Treasury. I can't add Obama to the list, because no one has a clue what he plans on doing, other than being the mirror on which we can reflect our hopes. Kind of like Disneyland.

Bummer, I spent 15 minutes writing an eloquent and excoritating rebutal to this post. Maybe the czar of this blog is practicing the silencing of dissent. Something we'll need to get used to when the Great Changer implments his "Fairness Doctrine".

If you commented something other than this I did not get it. I get an email when somebody posts and I have to release it. I only moderate comments to avoid spam attacks from comment bots (and Babinski)

If you did not catch this stupid event see below. Kid from next town over.

My apologies Douglas, the original post did not give me an email tickle. I am now routing comment notifications here in a different way. Funny, that the 2nd comment showed up in email.

Douglas - There is hope for you. I note that recent magic maps on the tube have Colorado turning a light shade of blue. It is likely that the agent of change will visit your state in the next week (perhaps more than once!). You should get away from airbrushing and fawning and the filter of the media and get out to a rally with 400-500K of your Colorado brethren & sisteren to get a load of the straight poop.

You really did not mean to dis at the potential Democratic leadership with the star studded array of Republican luminaries that were in control in 3 out of the 4 last Congress sessions? How does Delay, Lott, and Hastert sound in comparison, never mind the low lights such as Mark Foley and Larry Craig? BTW how is Teddy the Tubes working out for ya? Or Michelle Bachman? Or how about the CA Rep candidate Zane Starkwolfe who 'makes no apologies' for this sex laden robocall against his opponent - http://www.knx1070.com/Sexy-Sacto-Robo-Call/3214485 and http://www.knx1070.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=3025031.

And just to get you in the mood for the rally - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRB2wFhXIPs
